‘The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.’ - Jon Krakauer
Growing up in Newstead, a small town in Victoria, Australia, Joe works as a Firefighter and a Project Leader. He is an avid traveller and is eager to explore the natural world around him.
Joe was raised on a 50acre forest block, which he believes sparked his passion for the outdoors. His parents have also played a part in his love for nature, as his father, an ecologist, would take him on camping trips.
“I have always held a strong connection to the natural world and a passion for its preservation… We have a moral obligation to ensure what little wilderness left on earth survives for future generations to enjoy”
To Joe, adventure means pushing the boundaries and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Joe believes that his adventures have shaped him for the better, and is thankful for the experiences he has had the opportunity to enjoy.
“Adventure to me is experiencing a new place, a new horizon and a new challenge.”
One of Joe’s favorite adventure experiences included a three month trip through South East Asia, where he hiked and zip-lined through a jungle in northern Laos.
“The adrenalin rush of zip-lining through the treetops of ancient rainforest, sleeping a night in a tree house and being awakened by endangered Gibbons is an experience I will never forget.”
When Joe gets a chance, he likes to spend his time in the outdoors mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. His dream of an ultimate adventure is to hike at the foothills of the Himalayas or Karakoram
“I have long held a fascination with the Himalayas”
Joining thisworldexists’ Adventure Ambassador team, Joe is passionate about using education to help those less fortunate. He hopes to help spread our message through his networks of friends, and to inspire those around him.
