Trip Summary

Our Poon Hill/Sorung Chhabise trip is the best introductory trip for those wanting to get involved in developing world adventure and volunteer work.

With a maximum elevation of 3,210m, the Poon Hill trek offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range in a relatively short but occasionally steep hike.

This trip includes a $1000 donation to the Sorung Chhabise rebuild project that is used entirely to fund the work that we create for the community.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival to Kathmandu

All guests will be greeted at the airport by our Nepalese THISWORLDEXISTS contact. Our in country expert will have arranged airport transfers to our hotel for all guests.

Note: Those arriving prior to the suggested arrival date will need to organise their own transport from the airport.

Welcome Dinner provided at either the hotel restaurant or a nearby Nepali restaurant - TBC in country

Day 02: Acclimatisation day in Kathmandu

Optional (at an additional cost) to organise a morning Everest Flight experience with Buddha Air ($199USD). Flights start at 6:30am and take guests on a 45 minute flight through the Everest region to show these amazing mountains in a completely different perspective. The plan will fly under 30 kilometres from the peak of the world, Mount Everest.

Local sightseeing, preparation for the trek and overnight stay in Kathmandu at Samsara Resort.

Buffet breakfast provided at the hotel. After breakfast, the group will be taken to Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is about a 20 minute walk from the Hotel. All guests will be given free time to see the local tourist sights and asked to return to the hotel for Lunch.

In the afternoon, the group will be briefed about the trip. During this briefing, a final gear check will be completed and all group equipment for the trek will be prepared. Any last minute items that are needed to be rented or bought may be done.

Day 03: Travel day to Pokhara

After an early breakfast in the hotel, we will start our journey to Pokhara by private bus. Departing around 06:30 AM. 

On the way we will get beautiful views of the Trisuli River, and neighbouring mountains while our bus makes it way west. We will have lunch during the bus journey at a roadside restaurant that boasts fantastic views of the mountains from the restaurant’s terrace. 

Arrival in Pokhara by afternoon, check in to hotel. 

In the afternoon we will enjoy the beautiful surroundings and all guests will have free time in the evening.

Suggested activities include doing the beautiful lakeside street walk or boating in Fewa lake.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapool and trek to Tikhedhunga. 

After breakfast, we will drive to Nayapool through the large village of Lumle. After arriving in Nayapool, we will leave the bus, re-pack our gear and start trekking towards Birethanti. We follow the main street of Birethanti then make our way through bamboo forest, passing a large water fall and swimming hole. Beyond a pasture used by mule and donkey caravans, the trail reaches Sudame where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we start to hike up the side of the valley towards Tikhedhunga.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani. 

After breakfast, we crossing a stream on a suspension bridge then hike up towards the large Magar village, Ulleri (2070m). Above the village, the trail climbs gently through cultivated fields and rhododendron and oak forest (If you are here in April, this is spring time and the Rhododendron's will be in flower!). The trail crosses two sparkling clear streams before we make a short, final climb to Nangethanti. Here we will stop for lunch. From Nangethanti continue ascending towards Ghorepani.

Day 06: Explore Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani.
Early morning, well before breakfast, our guide will take the group to Poon Hill. It will take about 1 hour to reach the summit of Poon Hill. From Poon Hill, you can see a panoramic view of Himalayas which includes Dhaulagiri, Annapurna range, and many other snowcapped mountains that tower over 7000m above sea level. After sunrise from Poon Hill, we will make our way back to the lodge, have breakfast and repack our gear. We will leave Ghorepani and head towards Tadapani. Walking up and down, we reach Banthanthi where we stop for lunch. After lunch we continue to walk, passing rhododendron and oak forest finally we reach Tadapani.

Day 07: Trek to Ghandrung to Syauli Bazaar.
After breakfast we start to walk towards Gurung village of Ghandrung. Gurung is one of the ethnic group of Nepal which is famous as Gorkha soldiers. After 2 -3 hours of walk, we reach Ghandrung village and after having lunch and short visit of Ghandrung village, through village and terraced agricultural field we walk down towards Syauli Bazaar.

Day 08: Trek to Nayapool and drive back to Pokhara. 

From Syauli Bazaar, we follow the Modi River till Nayapool. Our lunch will be taken in Birethanti. After lunch we will have a very short trek to Nayapul, and return back to Pokhara. 

All guests will have a free evening in Pokhara, dinner at hotel or nearby restaurant.

Day 09: Drive from Pokhara to our education project

After breakfast, our private transport will take us to Sorung Chhabise village. The trip will take around 12-15 hours by bus.

Upon our arrival, we will rest and immerse ourselves in the rural Nepali community. 

Sleeping arrangements will be in tents or homestay during our time in Sorung Chhabise village. 

Note: the same sleeping bags used for the trek should suffice here.

Day 10-14: Education project in Sorung Chhabise

Continue support in our Education Project over the next 5 days. 

A range of tasks will be given to guests to assist the local tradespeople in building the school project.

Day 15: Thankyou ceremony in Sorung Chhabise village and return to Kathmandu. 

Lunch will be taken in a road restaurant on route to Kathmandu.

Free time in Kathmandu in the evening. Dinner provided at hotel or nearby restaurant.

Day 16: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and departure.

After breakfast, there will be a post-trip discussion and feedback forms completed.

A guided tour of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu (entry fees not included). Some of landmarks we visit include the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swoyambhunatha) and Buddhists shrine (Bouddha Nath).

All guests will be driven to the airport prior to their departing flights.
